Devon Sportshall Athletics

JUMPING FOR JOY…

Bovey Tracey Primary School’s Athletics team were jumping for joy after reaching the Devon County U11 Sports Hall Athletics Finals.

The team qualified for the Devon Finals after finishing 2nd in the Dartmoor School Sports Partnership round held in January.  The top 2 teams from each SSP area in Devon then came together to compete against each other.

Each pupil took part in 3 track events, including straight sprints, obstacle relays and over/under relays, and 3 field events, including the standing long jump, the javelin and power bounce.

After a full days competition, the Bovey Tracey children finished in 12th place overall.  The event, held at the Life Centre in Plymouth, is part of the Sainsbury's School Games programme.

Comments from the children included "It was exciting with lots going on at the same time.  I really enjoyed the sprint relays" and "We played our best.  I loved the set up and had fun".

Netball Finals and Gym Festival

Netball Partnership Finals

The Year 3/4 team took part in the re-arranged Partnership Finals on a very cold morning at Stover School, where they came up against the hosts in the very first game.  This game finished 0-0, and whilst Stover went on to win overall, Bovey dropped a few points to finish 4th in their group and then 7th overall.

It was a great display by all the children who rotated around the positions on the court and played some outstanding netball.

Year 4 Gymnastics Festival

12 Year 4 pupils went to an afternoon of Gymnastics fun held at South Dartmoor and run by their young leaders.

They all tried out some new moves, balancing, counter balancing and jumping.
